Dog Park at Leita Thompson in Roswell, GA for Dog Lovers

The dog park at Leita Thompson in Roswell, Georgia was created to promote walking and bicycling in the city of Roswell. Thompson is a former city employee who has made his efforts to create a dog park a success. The project started after he noticed that there wasn’t a dog park in the city of Roswell. The lack of a dog park got him thinking about why there weren’t any dog parks in his city. He realized that a dog park would benefit the community and would get people off the streets and into the park and it was his goal to see it happen. Roswell, GA  can be seen here.

Thompson knew that having a dog park in his city would attract many dogs, and he also realized that he wanted to work with the local government to get the project started. After researching the project, it became clear that the dogs needed a safe place to go to the bathroom, as well as a place for owners to bring their dogs if they were going on a walk. To this end, the city of Roswell installed benches at the entrance to the park. Each day, the dogs would use the benches to get a drink or to sit down and relax. They would do so in safety because the benches were elevated and surrounded by life-saving floodlights. Leita Thompson Park at Thompson Square is open all the time, and the dogs are always able to find a place to go to the bathroom. Many dogs have also learned to relieve themselves at the tables at the park. Even though Leita Thompson Park at Thompson Square is closed most of the year, the dog park remains open and accessible to the public whenever the park is open. The goal of the project was to create a dog park that the dogs of Roswell would love to visit. Thompson has also worked hard with the local government to make sure that the dogs are not over-policing the neighboring properties.
