The Sugar family were the original founders of Sugar Hill, Georgia. They built their home on a beautiful tract of land in 1842 and called it Sugar Creek. The Sugar Family Foundation was established by several descendants to preserve this heritage for future generations. Today visitors can walk through the Sugar House Museum that has been restored to its 1940s appearance with furnishings from that era as well as historic photographs, clothing, and documents related to life at Sugar Hill during past eras-which is important because there are few surviving examples of early African-American domestic architecture.
